Learn About CASA from Home
On August 14, Ohio CASA will join local programs for CASA 101, a virtual informational “mega session” about CASA volunteers and the work they do. The one-hour Facebook event will begin at 8 p.m.
Athens County CASA/GAL will host the session, with staff and CASA volunteers from Lucas County CASA, Montgomery County Juvenile Court CASA, Northwest Ohio CASA, and Ohio CASA contributing by sharing stories and addressing frequently asked questions. Additional programs are welcome and encouraged to take part.
The session is the brainchild of Jenny Stotts, executive director of Athens County CASA/GAL and Ohio CASA’s coordinator for the ongoing Southeast Regional Expansion Project funded by the Attorney General’s Office.
“It’s basically an information session, but instead of going to a library or something, we do it on Facebook,” Stotts said. She said Athens County hosted a similar event last year that was successful in netting the program both volunteers and donors.
Anyone with a Facebook page can participate once they have joined the event, Stotts said. To join, access the event page and click the “Going” option. After joining, users need only access their own Facebook pages between 8 and 9 p.m. on the 14th.
Stotts said staff and CASA volunteers plan to post information about every three minutes during the event, and will use photos and live and recorded video to engage participants.
They will address some of the more common questions about CASA as well as those posted by participants during the session.
“This innovative event is an exciting opportunity for CASA programs in Ohio to recruit much-needed volunteers,” Doug Stephens, Ohio CASA executive director, said.
“All of our member programs can benefit and learn from this experience,” he said.
